The Rose Apartments Receives a 2021 DeMuro Award
Jones Architecture is honored to announce that The Rose Apartments has received a 2021 DeMuro Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
The Rose Apartments is the first permanent housing serving women impacted by homelessness in the Portland area, operated by REACH Community Development since 1988. Originally constructed in 1910 and known as The Pallay Apartments, The Rose Apartments is a three story unreinforced masonry structure (URM), organized in a U-shape around a central courtyard.
The Rose received an overall renovation and seismic upgrade. The project team restored historic elements of the building, including the main stair and casework. Community amenities were reconfigured to allow for better flow and gathering, and units were upgraded with new finishes, fixtures, and appliances.
One of the reasons why the project was so successful was the way the entire project team collaborated together. This teamwork allowed the project to be completed within a tight timeline during the Covid pandemic in July 2020.
We are thrilled that the project has been selected for this honor. Read the official announcement in the press release on Restore Oregon’s website.
